First Report from Project in Africa: ”Croatian Wings of Help”

A teenager, his smile beaming, focuses intently on the ball he's just caught, leaning on a crutch that aids his mobility. With deft skill, he passes the ball to a boy without arms and legs, seated on the ground. Laughter fills the air as they all engage in a game they seem to master effortlessly. No one is left out.

This scene marks the first report from Africa under the project "Croatian Wings of Help," our initiative granting children with special needs, particularly those with physical disabilities, access to physiotherapy and exercises to enhance their daily lives.

Physiotherapist Mario V., one of the participants in the project, went to Tanzania for two months to work with children facing physical challenges. His task is: to offer physiotherapeutic support, engage in exercises, and, importantly, play alongside them. Our objective through "Croatian Wings of Help" extends beyond mere therapy; we strive to foster an environment where these children can thrive, develop, and feel fully embraced. We've chosen to symbolically grant them wings.

Mario’s first visit was to an orphanage in the Tanzanian city of Mbingi, where he carefully assessed each child. Conducting both group and tailored individual exercises, Mario introduced the residents to a new type of physical activity. Acting as their unwavering cheerleader, he encouraged and guided them through every step.

Thanks to the physiotherapy program nurturing their motor skills, these youngsters are embracing confidence and belief in their capabilities. Through play and exercises tailored to their needs, they experience the sheer joy, freedom, and empowerment of active participation in childhood activities. As they revel in shared moments of joy during play, differences dissolve, and a sense of belonging permeates the atmosphere.

Every captured moment of their happiness, as they play their roles as equal participants in the game and socialize, underscores the importance of providing support and ensuring equal opportunities for every child.

Through "Croatian Wings of Help," we continue to create an environment where these children can flourish and feel fully embraced. The images from Africa witness the transformative power of love and joy—the most potent therapies we can offer. This, indeed, is our mission.
